Hackerspace buys Club Mate from a local importer and sells them with a small profit margin in our very own vending machine. Finding out the retail price in DE 🇩🇪 (0.99€+0.15€) and comparing to the price we sell it for to our members (2.5€) made is think how difficult can it be to make our own? After making two batches, one with a concentrate (or rather a strong brew) and the other one steeped tea diluted with water proceeded to figuring out carbonisation. Bottling drinks with a consistent carbonisation is surprisingly difficult! But why even use bottles? Why can't we have nice things? Like carbonated mate drink on tap? We had an old fridge standing unused and after acquiring some kegs, filled CO₂ tank and a regulator with connecting tubes.

Nice, cold and slightly carbonated tea drink on tap. Foaming unfortunately will remain due to high saponin content.

Grainfather is a small brewery type of thing that is generally used to start beer (mashing, boiling). It also applies to our use case, as it has a heating element and a pump to circulate or drain the contents.
